When I came for the first time as a young girl to Pune, I was too supple. I went all directions forward, backward, not knowing what I was doing. Guruji had to work hard but brought my whole body in balance after many months. Through that exercising I grew stronger and more balanced.
The classes were every day for many hours. Each day was hard working and often the backbends and balancings were endless worked out in detail. There were nights in which I could not sleep because of the pain in my body. I felt my body intense and started to understand what was happening in my body.At the end of months of hard work Guruji said that I was lucky that he could teach me in an advanced way ,so that I did not have to find out myselve.
Once in a full class with many helpers Guruji directed a pupil to me. This time it was sirsanana., headstand. I helped my pupil and while he was doing very well, I saw another pupil having difficulties with the headstand and I walked to him for giving help. When Guruji saw this, he said“Stay with your pupil, your pupil is your God”. These words impressed not only me but many other people too.The whole class was silent and realised the words our Guruji said...
For many years I went in July to London: there was the most highly qualified teachers training courses for 4 weeks of hard working and learning. Hundreds and hundreds of pupils came to attend these classes. My first class was there in 1970. Those 4 weeks were very very intense work for Guruji and I learned much by helping him in these classes.
Happily in those years he could go for another 4 weeks to Gstaad in Switserland after these courses in London, not only for a bit of rest, but also to teach Jehudi Menuhin, the world famous violist and conductor.
We were camping and Guruji stayed in the hotel nearby the chalet of Jehudi Menuhin . Luckely there was enough time and space to exercise with Guruji on the balcony of the hotel. This was also hard and serious yoga but with a feeling of holiday too. . Though we were on holiday he kept us always awake and alert: when we were resting somewhere, he used to say :” see!!…. that person there waiting”. that person has tremendous pain in his lower back., or look at those crocked legs. We learned all the time, when we were together with our Guru. So I am very thankfull that I was in the right time with him, which gave me a chance to go on in yoga and teach and help many people around my hometown.
I was so inspired by his temperament. I was first teaching a bit rough in the beginning, like copying Guruji. But I learned to be myself and became calm and strong.
For Leo, my husband, is 2.03 mtr, he was for Guruji a good example in the classes to show some asanas. He could also make yokes about Leo’s length. Leo had a accident and got backache, so I helped him by doing yoga. I also helped other people with backaches: one example: there was a young mother in bed that was afraid to go out of bed because of the backache. Through the knowledge I’ve got from Guruji, I could help her to know what to do by herself to improve.
An other specialisation was giving yoga to pregnant woman. Not only to them, but also to their husbands, because they had to know the asanas and the stretching of the muscles from their woman, their breathing and relaxation. In this way the husbands could help their woman when the day came to deliver. I learned the woman to do pranayama to control their emotions so that their baby was quiet and be delivered well.
I have teached yoga in New Zealand, Australia, America, France, England, Germany, Austria and of course, Holland. There I have teached on the University of Rotterdam, Medical Centre and the Green Cross, Medical Aid Centre. I give yoga to pregnant women and their husbands, people with bachache, children, adults, elderly people and so on.
I am also moderator of the Dutch Yoga association’s examen committee and also for the Swedish Association in 2010.
Guruji gave me yoga. We are from the deepest of our heart very gratefull to him, because we can help other people to be sound or help them to get rid of pain. Thank, you Guruji.
